Maggie Gyllenhaal must think videotape is cool. Or cooler, anyway.

The Dark Knight actress has signed on to judge an online video contest to fight climate change.

To enter the Climate Matters video contest, create a 30- or 60-second video encouraging our next president to take action against climate change. The top winner receives a $3,000 Visa gift card from Vermont-based environmental group Brighter Planet.

The top 10 videos will be broadcast on the Web at various venues, including the Huffington Post.

Various other filmmakers—including Emmy-winning documentary producer Rory Kennedy—and environmental activists have also joined the judging panel.

Fug Genius or Fashion Disaster: Maggie Gyllenhaal

The Dark Knight has got Maggie Gyllenhaal wearing questionable outfits all over the world.

Like this orange lace Jean Paul Gaultier number for the Japanese premiere. It's great to see Mags in some color for a change. But see-through lace is a tough thing to pull off.

After examining several close-ups and multiple angles, we are 95 percent sure she is wearing an orange bra over a nude slip under all that lace, and we are 100 percent sure we don’t like it.

Our feelings about Maggie are complicated, because we kinda like the girl, so we often prefer to label her a “fashion eccentric.” However, it’s entirely possible she’s just a straight-up mess.

We've rounded up her latest red carpet looks in a special Fashion Spotlight gallery so that you can expertly weigh in on whether her tastes are charmingly eccentric or woefully misguided.

Dark Knight Mania: Maggie Goes Deep, Talks Heath

More from Lyons Den

Big week for Batman, and star Maggie Gyllenhaal has obviously thought about The Dark Knight even more than the rest of us. She tells me why the movie goes far beyond just "fun," and she shares what it's like filming one of the scariest scenes with Heath Ledger. Check the clip to get the full story.

Gyllenhaal Sibs Flee Fire

If only the Gyllenhaal siblings' careers were all that was on fire these days.

Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal were forced to evacuate the rustic Northern California lodge they were staying at Wednesday when a fire broke out in the chilly early morning hours, the Marin Independent Journal reported.

The fire destroyed the main building at Manka's Inverness Lodge, as well as the getaway's acclaimed restaurant, but no injuries were reported from either the staff or the hotel's dozen or so guests.

"Jake was helping me pull things out of the fire," Daniel DeLong, who co-owns Manka's with partner Margaret Grad, told the Journal.

The Brokeback Mountain star and his sister have been frequent guests at the two-story wooden lodge, which also boasts private cabins for those seeking extra privacy. In addition to the Gyllenhaal family, the onsite restaurant counts Prince Charles and Frances McDormand and hubby Joel Coen among its high-profile clientele.

A posting on the lodge's Website said that, although the main house and restaurant are closed until further notice, the surrounding cabins, annex and boat house are still open.

Officials said that the fire was first reported at 2:43 a.m. by next-door neighbor Judy Prokupek, who said that she heard a tree fall a few minutes before seeing a small fire in the back of the lodge and guests running out.

Including Jake, 26, and Maggie, 29, who braved the wind and rain along with all of the other people who had no idea that they'd be out in the cold at 3 a.m.

"They weren't dressed to come out," Prokupek told the Journal, referring to the shivering crowd in general. "It was early."

Firefighters from Marin County, Inverness, Bolinas and Skywalker Ranch responded to the call and prevented the blaze from spreading to any nearby structures, eventually containing it by 7:30 a.m.

Investigators said that the fire was most likely caused when a large rotten tree smashed into the back corner of the building, near a water heater.

No word on whether the Gyllenhaals cut their vacation short, stayed put or moved on to another locale, or whether they were accompanied by any other family members, such as Maggie's almost-three-month-old daughter with fiancé Peter Sarsgaard. The actress is up for a Golden Globe next month for her role in the drama Sherrybaby.

Mommyhood for Maggie Gyllenhaal

The stork delivery came early for Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard.

The indie movie darlings welcomed daughter Ramona in New York Tuesday night, the actress' publicist confirmed.

"Mom, dad and baby are healthy and happy," Amanda Silverman told E! News.

The baby's vital statistics were not divulged.

While both mom and dad have remained characteristically quiet about the details of the pregnancy, it's believed Ramona was born a full two weeks before the Secretary star was due to give birth.

According to the New York Daily News, Gyllenhaal, 28, was rushed to the hospital around 8 p.m. Tuesday after going into early labor. Her fiancé was by her side and the duo became first-time parents very soon after.

The camera-ready couple first announced they were expecting last April, when they doubled their press release pleasure by also spilling the news that they were engaged.

Gyllenhaal told the Los Angeles Daily News last month that she and Sarsgaard, 35, would tie the knot "at some point," thought there's "nothing planned yet."

"I certainly will take some kind of break," she added. "But I'm really trying not to anticipate what it will be like to have a newborn baby. I have no idea, and I'm going to wait and see how it feels, really make decisions when I know more about being a mother than I know now."

The workaholic Gyllenhaal can definitely use some down time. She has released three films in the past two months, the drug-themed family drama Sherrybaby, which is garnering her Oscar buzz, as well as Oliver Stone's World Trade Center, Sherrybaby and the indie dramedy Trust the Man.

As for Sarsgaard, he recently finished shooting the dramas Year of the Dog, with Molly Shannon and Laura Dern, and The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, opposite Sienna Miller. It looks like he's taking some paternity leave--according to IMDb.com, he has no other projects in the works.

The couple have been together for nearly four years after meeting on the set of Steven Soderbergh's 2003 low-budget (and never-released) drama, In God's Hands.

Though, clearly, the experience wasn't a total bust.

Gyllenhaal, Sarsgaard: Engaged, Expecting

Good news apparently comes in twos for Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Not only is the indie movie queen expecting her first child with longtime beau Peter Sarsgaard, but they are also engaged, People magazine reports. It'll be the first marriage for both actors.

Let's just hope they don't go for a hyphenated last name. For spell check's sake.

No further details are known; there was no immediate comment Tuesday from either actor's rep.

The twosome has been together for an impressive-by-Hollywood-standards four years after meeting on the set of Steven Soderbergh's 2003 low-budget and never-released drama In God's Hands.

Though clearly the experience wasn't a total bust.

Since then, they have kept a relatively low public profile, even as their respective film careers have increasingly put them in the spotlight.

Gyllenhaal, 28, has more than 20 films to her credit. She broke through to the big leagues in 2002's S&M-themed drama Secretary, for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. She has since starred in Mona Lisa Smile, Adaptation and Happy Endings, and has been lauded in the press as an avant-garde fashionista.

For his part, Sarsgaard, 35, has appeared in more than 25 films, most recently Flightplan, Garden State, Kinsey and Jarhead, which he starred opposite future brother-in-law Jake Gyllenhaal. Sarsgaard earned a Golden Globe nom for his turn in 2003's Shattered Glass.

While this has been Gyllenhaal's first public romance, Sarsgaard was previously linked with model Shalom Harlow.

If a wedding to plan and a nursery to get in order wasn't enough, Gyllenhaal has plenty to keep her busy in the coming months.

Gyllenhaal has several films awaiting release, including the French romance Paris, Je T'aime, set to premiere at Cannes next month, as well as the all-star comedy Stranger Than Fiction with Will Ferrell, Dustin Hoffman, Queen Latifah and Emma Thompson, due in November. She also hits screens in 9-11 drama World Trade Center in August.

Maggie Gyllenhaal Maligned Online

Maggie Gyllenhaal is taking an online whipping for some comments on 9-11.

The actress, whose post-9-11-themed feature, The Great New Wonderful, just debuted at New York's Tribeca Film Festival, said in an interview last week with Manhattan cable channel NY1 that the United States is "responsible in some way" for the attacks.

"Because I think America has done reprehensible things and is responsible in some way and so I think the delicacy with which it's dealt allows that to sort of creep in," she said.

The interview sparked outrage from some New York firefighters, along with the usual conservative bloggers and Websites, prompting the actress' flack to issue a statement Monday.

The 27-year-old Gyllenhaal, best known for her roles in Mona Lisa Smile, Adaptation and the S&M comedy Secretary, expressed sadness for "everyone who suffered and everyone who died in the catastrophe."

However, she stopped short of an apologizing for her earlier comments and said the day, to her, represented "an occasion to be brave enough to ask some serious questions about America's role in the world. Because it is always useful as individuals or nations to ask how we may have knowingly or unknowingly contributed to this conflict."

That apparently wasn't enough to quell her critics.

"I hope she reconsiders her anti-American attitude, but maybe that's not realistic. Or maybe it will take something awful, like a nuke or biological attack, for her eyes to open up," waxed one poster on the right-leaning site freerepublic.com.

"She has nothing to contribute to my life that is any more comprehensible than the barking dog across the street. I'd like to give them both the same thing.....a swift kick in the butt," a less than impressed Netizen opined. Another non-fan wrote: "She's really talented and beautiful. She should shut up, act, and look pretty."

Some of the anti-Maggie minions were not content venting their fury on political message boards--taking their opinions instead to a Gyllenhaal fan site.

Maggie-gyllenhaal.net was forced to temporarily shut down its message boards for new members because the comments were getting too barbed for the site owner.

"She won't see the comments so please don't leave hate messages," the site administrator wrote Tuesday. "If you don't like Maggie, then don't waste your time on the site."

But don't expect Gyllenhaal to maintain a low profile online. She has reportedly been tapped along with Larry David and Gwyneth Paltrow to contribute to Arianna Huffington's forthcoming political Website the Huffington Post.

Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal's brother, Jake, also has a nose for hot-button issues.

The Day After Tomorrow star weighed in on global warming last week by attending an Earth Day event in the Arctic sponsored by Global Green USA and the National Resources Defense Council. He danced with local Inuits and urged governments to cut down on pollution and greenhouse gas emission.

"The Inuit people put a human face on global warming," he told reporters Friday. "They are literally melting away."
