New Jersey is going to the Super Bowl.

The Garden State's own Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band has been announced as the entertainment during the Super Bowl XLIII Halftime at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. The big game will air Feb. 1 on NBC.

The halftime gig, made infamous in 2004 by Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake, has in recent years become the opportunity to bring out venerable rock acts to the estimated 148 million or so people watching. Recent performers have included the Rolling Stones, U2, Prince, Paul McCartney and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, all rocking out to an adoring crowd and a five-second delay, in case anything spontaneous happens.

Aside from what should surely be a top-notch performance by Springsteen, fans can at least feel safe that no wardrobe malfunctions are likely occur with this bunch.

That is, unless Little Steven's head scarf gets blown off. Then things could get ugly.

Since they did so much good, we thought we'd offer you a treat for the eyes with our Sweatin' With the Stars gallery.

O.J. Simpson is about to come face to face with the next 12 most important people he's ever seen in his life.

A jury was seated Thursday for the erstwhile murder defendant's upcoming trial in Las Vegas on armed robbery, kidnapping, conspiracy and other charges related to an alleged sports memorabilia heist that Simpson is accused of masterminding a year ago.

Simpson and codefendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart have pleaded not guilty on all counts.

Whether or not the chosen dozen (and six alternates) really have no biases toward the Naked Gun star will never truly be known, but both the prosecution and the defense are just gonna have to hope.

Kevin Connolly Humbled by the Michael Phelps Phenomenon

Michael Phelps Gene Duncan

The Phelpsian frenzy shows no sign of slowing down.

When Michael Phelps shot an impromptu cameo for the new season of Entourage this week, the HBO comedy's fab four got a taste of what hanging out with the original Fab Four might have been like.

"It was like being in New York City with one of the Beatles," Kevin Connolly told E! News Friday about shooting a scene with the 14-time Olympic gold medalist, who's been the toast of seemingly every town since returning to the U.S. from Beijing.

“People were stopping in the streets and climbing up things to see him. They were going nuts. He’s like a superstar."

"It was fun," albeit "pretty humbling," added the actor, whose hit HBO show has its fifth-season premiere Sept. 7.

Saturday Night Live is looking to make a splash this season.

The aging sketch series has tapped Olympic golden boy Michael Phelps to host its 34th-season premiere Sept. 13 on NBC, which probably wouldn't mind basking in the glow from its history-making coverage of the Beijing Games a little longer.

Aside from all the commercials and inevitable talk-show spots, this will be the first "acting" role for Phelps, whose world-record-smashing, eight-gold-medal-winning performance at the Summer Olympics made him the poster boy of U.S. swimming for generations to come and won him the hearts of millions of admiring fans.

Knight Rider's Latest Hasselhoff-Free Design

Knight Rider, Ford, Prototype, Race Car Courtesy NBC

Knight Rider without the Hoff is, well, just another fast car with a smart mouth.

But with the imminent return of a revamped KITT car on NBC this September, we're mildly curious to see what a David Hasselhoff-deficient Ford can do.

Hence, we will be directing our attention to a KITT-inspired car set to compete at the NASCAR Sprint Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Aug. 23.

It's not the most fuel-efficient marketing scheme, but this retooled roadster could spark interest in the new series. Or make you hope for a last-minute victory by a Trans Am piloted by a hairy-chested loner who just happens to be hugely popular in Germany.

Nicole Kidman Prompts Olympians' Sail to Victory

Nicole Kidman's got the golden touch.

A phone call from the Australian actress helped spur two of her countrymen to victory Monday in the men's 470 class sailing competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, gold medal winner Malcolm Page tells Melbourne's Herald Sun.

After making tracks in the preliminary rounds, Page, partner Nathan Wilmot and their 4.70-meter-long fiberglass dinghy—named the Australia, after Baz Luhrmann's upcoming epic starring Kidman and Hugh Jackman—also finished first in yesterday's medal race, beating out teams from Great Britain and France for the top spot on the podium.

But despite their nautical tribute to Kidman, Page says that he didn't get to speak to her when she first rang him up because he saw the unknown number and let her call go to voice mail.

Casting Call: Looking for Michael Phelps

As the Summer Olympics heat up, we can't help but wonder if Hollywood might make a biopic or two about some of Beijing's A-list athletes.

While it's kinda obvs Brad Pitt would play Australian boxer Brad Pitt, we're more concerned with who'd play Team USA's record-breaking, 10-time medal-winning, all-around cutie Michael Phelps.

With his boy-next-door, all-American good looks, we proudly put our favorite Office employee, John Krasinski, on the podium.

What do you think? Are there other Tinseltown-Olympic look-alikes? Go for the gold in the comments!

Just in time for China's moment in the spotlight, some of the biggest voices in showbiz are taking another stand on behalf of Tibet.

Sting, John Mayer and Dave Matthews are among the rockers lending their musicianship to Songs for Tibet, an all-star album intended to draw more attention to the Asian province's ongoing struggle for national sovereignty.

The album, which will also feature tunes by Alanis Morissette, Moby and Garbage, will have a global release on iTunes Aug. 5, three days before the 2008 Summer Olympics get underway in Beijing. Hard copies will hit stores Aug. 12.

"We wanted to express our support for the Tibetan people and their message of peace through music, a fundamental means of expression, at a time when the eyes of the world are on China," said the Art of Peace Foundation's Michael Wohl, whose Dalai Lama-supporting nonprofit is behind the CD project.
